LAGC 2016 Annual Picnic

Longvue Acres Garden Club Annual Picnic
June 28, 2016

What a great picnic evening in a beautiful spot. Thank you to Sharon and Bill Walston for hosting the Annual Picnic. Their multilevel garden has a lovely mix of architectural features; a waterfall, a cherub angel statue, statement plants, border plantings, mature trees, and an arbor leading to the hillside garden.  Members enjoyed the various salads, desserts and beverages while seated on the deck or in the backyard. After dinner but before dessert, Mary Anne Kurtz held a brief business meeting.
·        Thank you to Sharon and Bill Walston for hosting.
·        Officer slots are not yet completely filled. Mary Ann thanked Colleen and Evan for this year’s excellent programs and Esther Nagy for maintaining the blog. Esther may be moving out-of-state in the near future so we’ll need to plan how best to fill her shoes.
·        Mary Anne and Claudia Hickly enjoyed the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden Tour with twelve stops over 71 miles in six hours (3 ½ miles walking). This year’s tour featured North Hills gardens in Ross, Ohio, Cranberry, McCandless, and Gibsonia.
·        Ingomar Garden Club has invited LAGC members to their 70th Anniversary party, October 19, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Hampton Banquet Hall, $21.50 per person. Actor Tim Hartman will provide the entertainment.  Mary Anne will email the invitation to members, and those interested in attending must RSVP by early August.
·        Lynn Betts suggested members might enjoy the Shaler Garden Club Tour held each year on the last Sunday of June. Tour benefits the Shaler Public Library.
·        Jenna Noker will be the 2017 Program Chair with assistance from Jeanne Schomaker, and Linda Kaiser. Jenna asked members to complete a program and field trip interest survey provided by current program chair, Colleen Fingal. Results will guide the committee in selecting future programs.  Marlow suggested we have another tour and luncheon in December. A return trip to Phipps or a tour of Hartwood Acres were suggested. Everyone agreed with Marlow’s suggestion and the details for a December tour and luncheon will be worked out later.
·        Marilyn Gurtner invited interested members to her home for bird-banding on July 5th. Drop in anytime between 6-11 a.m.
·        Members bringing plants to share were Lynn- dahlia, Sharon- Lenten rose, and Mary Anne - tick seed.
