Attendance: 24 members, 3 guests
Colleen Fingal, LAGC VP President, welcomed members and
guests after a tour of Lynn and Ross Betts’ garden. She thanked them for
hosting in their beautiful home and garden and we all nodded in agreement. The
Betts garden is large and they have heeded the “right plant in the right spot”
with separate sun perennial garden, a shady hosta and fern garden, a vegetable
garden, and stately trees and bushes. Lynn gave an informative tour pointing
out in progress areas to allow us to see before and after successes. She noted
areas that are wetter because of underground water. They have a wide variety of
plantings.

Colleen conveyed Claudia Hickley’s thanks for LAGC members’ support
after losing husband Nick.
Mary Ann Kurtz thanked all for the plant sale and garden
treasures success bringing in $1450. Eight fewer customers bought plants than
last year and that accounted for the $200 difference from last year. The unsold
plants were donated and picked up by Eloise Peet and crew of Ross Township to
be planted in Evergreen Park.
Denny Brown asked members to approve an additional $100
donation for the Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens. There was a special campaign where
all donations would be matched. This was approved.
Colleen asked for November/December tour ideas. Frick
Museum, museum in Brighton, new environmental center in Frick Park were
suggested. Colleen will gather information about the suggestions and follow-up
with club members.
Jenna Noker spoke about program ideas for next year. Club
members completed a survey to gather comments and interests. Please contact her
if you have ideas and feedback, especially if you were not at the picnic.
