LAGC Meeting – July 14, 2020
Submitted by Andrea M., recording secretary.
On another perfect summer evening, members gathered to tour the Heavenly Sunset Garden at the home of Bernie Taylor. The garden is an American Hemerocallis Society Display Garden and co-winner of the 2010 Great Local Gardens Contest. We had the privilege of seeing over 700 varieties of Daylilies, all blooming. Bernie and her husband have spent many years putting the garden together. Each Daylily variety was meticulously labeled with the name, hybridizer and year acquired. The Daylilies were interplanted with large swathes of a variety of perennial plants, to beautiful effect.
Members got to go home with potted up tall balloon flowers and/or hosta plants from the garden. We were also allowed to go through the gardens and mark the Daylily varieties which were our favorites, and this fall, Bernie and her husband will pot them up as they go through their fall cleanup/division process and will coordinate with Mary Anne to get the potted plants to the members. Of course, this is as dependent on availability of the plants selected.
Reminder that 2 year terms are up, so volunteers are being looked for President, VP and Treasurer, as well as if you have any interest in chairing one of the committees. Especially needed is someone to assume responsibility for programming. You can partner up with one or more members to make it a little easier. If you’re interested in any of the positions, or chairing a committee, please let Colleen know.
If you have not yet signed up for a week of chapel garden maintenance at Passavant, please get in touch with Evan and Colleen to find out which weeks are still available. You will receive a reminder email when your turn comes around.
